Enterprise software developed to be the source of truth for metadata of films, shows, and episodes. A unique ID is generated every time a new asset is added to the Video Manager. This made it possible to track the assets across all platforms for accounting and production purposes.
No central location for all metadata created across different departments. Inconsistent metadata across services and spreadsheets. Inability to track performance across platforms and seasons. Inefficient workflows for licensing, delivery and publishing.
Create a central repository for metadata management and core infrastructure for media delivery. Generate a unique ID for new assets added into Video Manager for easier tracking across multiple platforms.
From multiple stakeholder interviews, we found out that most of the metadata being entered into spreadsheets were mainly done by interns. These interns were experts in navigating mobile devices but were not as well-versed with desktop applications. With this in mind, we knew that we had to make Video Manager both intuitive and easy-to-use.
Engage early and often. We gathered stakeholders, engineers and project managers all in the same room to generate as many ideas as possible in the form of sketches. We then voted on each of these sketches to decide which ones should move into the prototyping phase.
The design system was created to help out the engineers so that they will have an updated reference on the styles and patterns of the app's components. The design system also ensures that all the internal apps are consistent in regards to branding and UI patterns.
The main stakeholders wanted to be able to access the app via desktop, tablet, and mobile. So we decided to develop the app using Bootstrap's responsive framework. We optimized the mobile site for iPhones since our analytics showed that over 85% of users came from an iOS device.
